Leo Gehring, CHFM, CHC, FASHE, the immediate past
president of the Health Care Institute, has been appointed
director of engineering and plant operations at Kaiser
Permanente Sacramento Medical Center, one of the country’s
leading healthcare providers and not-for-profit health plans
serving more than 10.6 million members.
In his new role, Gehring holds responsibility for
all plant operations for the Kaiser Sacramento Medical Center.
He serves as point of contact for all issues related to the
physical plant, as well as grounds and construction project
operations. Among other duties, this includes managing the
development and implementation of standards for plant operations
and maintenance, and employing best practices for systems
development and cost-effective operations standards. It also
includes the prevention of potential facility problems,
maintaining compliance with all governmental and accrediting
agencies, and guiding staff in their attainment of service,
quality and cost objectives.
Gehring has held roles at numerous facilities in
a career that spans 45 years of teaching, consulting, and
operating in the healthcare facilities and construction
industries. Among other roles, he served as president of the
Health Care Institute from 2013 to 2015.
